Detoxification is not something new—your body functions in such a way that it automatically gets rid of waste and toxins that build up; unfortunately, however, the kind of food that we eat and the lifestyles that we lead alters the body’s natural mechanism to such an extent that the organs that once cleansed the body now groan in protest and the toxicity continues to mount in your body systems.
A raw food detox diet helps to eliminate toxins that are stored in the body fat and cells, reboots your metabolism and makes a new person of you. It rejuvenates, increases energy levels, aids memory and digestion and sort of de-stresses your entire body. Nutrients find their way into the cells and push the toxic waste into the lymph fluid that enters the cells and the healing process begins.
Raw fruits and vegetables have live enzymes in them and this help hasten the chemical reactions that take place in the body. Vegetables and fruits cooked above 118 degrees F need to be avoided as they begin to start losing nutrients then. Seeds, nuts, legumes and unprocessed grains are allowed during the detox period.
Just because you’re on a detoxification diet doesn’t mean that you have to give up everything. You can spice your food with a lot of herbs, use raw virgin coconut or olive oil, raw protein and cocoa powder and almond and other nut butter. You can enjoy freshly squeezed juices, unsweetened drinks, coconut water, almond or soy milk and even herbal tea. Since raw food diets focus on eating plenty of fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and grains, the body gets a lot of fiber, which is very good for digestion.
A raw food diet will very obviously help you lose weight as you consume fewer calories and less fat. In fact, because such a diet is high in fiber and low in saturated fats, the risk of high cholesterol and heart disease is greatly minimized.
While switching over to a raw diet, you might feel terribly low in spirits and health, have difficulty sleeping and experience a sense of weakness and fatigue during the transition… This is normal as it’s the body’s way of adjusting to detoxification. To lessen these symptoms, you could make the transition to raw foods more gradually. By allowing your body to slowly adjust itself to raw foods, the symptoms that appear during the actual detoxification process will be greatly minimized.
Detoxification dieting with raw food is not easy but apparently, it helps the body get rid of all the junk it has accumulated over a period of time. The symptoms that you are likely to experience are transitory—at the end of the process there’s a whole new you that feels invigorated enough to tackle anything. All that it requires is a little willpower, a little courage to go forward even if the going is tough and hey presto! There’s a new life awaiting you.
